Stomach with BariClip

Stomach with B-Clamp®

What is the B-Clamp ?

The B-Clamp  is a medical device in the shape of a clip that is placed around the stomach in a vertical fashion.  This creates a  narrow vertical section isolating the remainder of the stomach.  This new small vertical stomach reduces the amount of food the stomach can hold making the person feel "full" much sooner which minimizes food intake and helps significantly reduce weight naturally.

The  B-Clamp is kept in place with a few sutures. There is no cutting , stapling or removal of any part of the stomach. Because the way it's designed there are no leaks and there is minimal reflux associated with this clip.  Most patients with the B-Clamp don't feel hunger.

The B-Clamp is made of an internal core of titanium which is overcoated with medical grade silicone.  The Titanium inner layer adds rigidity while the outer silicone layer provides a smooth and flexible surface for extra comfort. The B-Clamp is removable and can be placed in an ambulatory center. The B-Clamp does not require adjustments to be successful, nor are there any ports required to be placed under the skin.

The B-Clamp is implanted using  minimally invasive surgery that lasts about an hour or less.  Most patients normally go home the same day of the procedure and can return to work within 3-5 days.

Why should I choose the B-Clamp over other surgical methods for weight loss ?

The B-Clamp is the latest in medical technology for weight loss.  It was designed to be placed vertically as a "Sleeve" which means it provides similar weight loss results as the Gastric Sleeve procedure but it is removable which means the B-Clamp can be surgically removed at any time leaving the original stomach intact.

Because of the "gentleness" of the  B-Clamp,  it can be placed in patients with lower BMI's (>30) who qualify.  It may also be better for an older or younger population.

The  B-Clamp is the newest bariatric tool for this very complex disease called OBESITY.

Some of its benefits include:

  • Minimum side effects such as acid reflux , nausea or vomiting.
  • No stapling, cutting or changes to the stomach. The anatomy returns to normal if the clip is removed.
  • No risk of stapler leaks.
  • No changes in the anatomy of the intestines.
  • No malabsorption.
  • No need for adjustments or ports.
  • May be done as an outpatient procedure.
  • Quick recovery.

Is the B-Clamp right for me ?

The B-Clamp might be right for you if you meet the following conditions:

  • Adults 18 - 65 years of age.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 35 kg/m2.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30 kg/m2 and 50 kg/m2 with one or more obesity related comorbid conditions.
  • Persons that have previously failed in more conservative weight reduction alternatives, such as supervised diet, exercise or behavior modification programs.
  • Patients who elect to have this surgery must make the commitment to accept significant changes in their eating habits for the rest of their lives.

Please consult your weight-loss medical professional.

What is BMI and how do I calculate it ?

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of obesity based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.

Use the calculator below to find out your BMI.

How long can my B-Clamp last ?

The longest implanted patient so far is at 9 years (as of 2022).  Since the  B-Clamp is made from high grade medical materials that have been used in implanted devices for many years, we expect that the clip could last for at least 20 years, if not more.

Will I feel my B-Clamp ?

In some instances after significant weight loss in smaller patients, one may feel some minor discomfort in the upper left abdomen, which is hardly noticeable.  At times, patients may require anti-inflammatory meds.

Can I get pregnant with the B-Clamp  ?

Since weight loss can lead to increase fertility, we caution our patients to use protection for the first year to allow the body to equilibrate and adjust. However, we have seen no untoward effects from patients with the B-Clamp who have become pregnant.

Can I exercise with my B-Clamp ?

We encourage all types of exercises once the body has healed from surgery. If a particular type of exercise causes discomfort, we suggest you avoid that exercise in particular.

Can I have my B-Clamp removed?

We don’t advise against removal unless it’s for medical reasons, because of the possibility of weight regain. However, the B-Clamp can easily be removed at anytime.

Is the B-Clamp similar to the "Band" ?

The B-Clamp is not a " Band".  It is a completely different product and provides weight-loss in a different way.  The B-Clamp has minimal side effects compared to the traditional "Band".

Where can I get the B-Clamp ?

The B-Clamp is approved for weight loss treatment in many countries around the world.  More countries are joining the list every month so check back soon if you don't see your home country on the list.
